Help make sure our seas are heard in the Senedd
At the Marine Conservation Society, we’re working for a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean. We bring communities, governments and industry together to champion science-based solutions to the climate and nature emergency. To do that in Wales, we need a strong voice where decisions get made.
As our Parliamentary Affairs Officer for the Senedd, you’ll influence our parliamentary work in Wales. You’ll build relationships with Members of the Senedd, Ministers, government officials and Natural Resources Wales, so that marine conservation stays on the political agenda and helps shape legislation and policy.
What you’ll do
Spot opportunities to get our messages into Senedd business, including written and oral questions and Member debates
Secure meetings with MS's, Ministers and civil servants, and follow them up
Track parliamentary and government business, and turn it into clear, timely summaries for colleagues
Help develop parliamentary briefings, and support Senedd events and events with elected officials across Wales
Work with partners such as Wales Environment Link, and with our Policy & Advocacy, Parliamentary Affairs and Communications teams
What you’ll bring
Experience in public affairs, government relations or lobbying, ideally in Wales
A strong understanding of how Welsh political institutions and decision-making work
A track record of building relationships with government officials and policymakers
The ability to explain complex issues simply and persuasively for different audiences
Good organisation, close attention to detail, and comfort working both from home and in busy settings
Experience on environmental issues, knowledge of the marine environment, and Welsh language skills would all be a bonus, but they aren’t essential.
What we offer
25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, rising with service, and we close between Christmas and New Year
8% employer pension contribution
Enhanced sick pay after probation
Flexible and remote working
An employee assistance programme for you and the people you live with
A paid volunteering day
Celebrating difference
We know the environmental and charity sectors don’t yet reflect the diversity of our communities, and we want to change that. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If an adjustment would help you take part in our recruitment process, email us at hr@mcsuk.org.
