Who we are
Seasearch is a citizen science programme that gives volunteer divers and snorkelers the chance to learn and observe marine species while contributing to vital conservation work. We work with regional coordinators and partner organisations to collect data on marine habitats and species – data that helps influence restoration, protection, and policy change.
What you’ll be doing
• Entering species and habitat records into the Marine Recorder Online system
• Supporting the collation, storage, and reporting of data collected by volunteers
• Using your marine biology knowledge to help verify and organise high-quality data
• Assisting with training and support for other data entry volunteers
• Helping manage our central archive and volunteer qualifications lists
What we’re looking for
Knowledge and experience:
• A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in marine science
• Strong knowledge of British and Irish marine life
• Confidence working with databases and MS Office (especially Excel)
• Ideally, familiarity with Marine Recorder Online or similar citizen science projects
Skills and approach:
• Great attention to detail – you spot the little things others might miss
• Clear, logical decision-making and problem-solving
• A calm, organised approach to managing time and priorities
• A team player who’s enthusiastic about marine citizen science
• Someone who values inclusion, collaboration, and continuous learning
This role is based in the United Kingdom - we cannot accept applications to work in this role from other countries.
Overall purpose and Objective
To enter marine species & habitat data contained on Seasearch observation and survey forms, submitted by volunteers, into the Marine Recorder Online platform.
Key responsibilities
Manage the collation of Seasearch data.
Support Seasearch data reporting.
